CSUN Women Qualify in Relay at NCAA Finals

Cal State Northridge qualified for the final in the women’s 400-meter relay at the NCAA Division II track and field championships at Cal State Los Angeles.
In its qualifying heat on Wednesday, Northridge’s team of Julie Middleton, Monica Ostertag, Anna Cano and Lori Costello clocked a time of 46.69, the seventh-best of the day.
Hampton Institute set a Division II record in qualifying for the same event with a time of 44.67. The mark bettered the standard of 44.79, set by Cal State Bakersfield in 1983. The top eight teams qualified for the finals, which will be run on Friday.
In the women’s 10,000, the only final run Wednesday, Nina Manriquez of Northridge finished fourth in 34:57.27, and teammate Alex Aguirre placed fifth in 35:11.28.
Jennie Stachura of Northridge failed to qualify for the final in the women’s 800 meters.
Stachura finished sixth in her heat with a time of 2:12.85. The winners of each heat and the runners with the six fastest other times qualified for the finals.
The meet runs through Saturday at Cal State Los Angeles. Today’s start is scheduled for noon.
