Quake Shakes Mojave Desert

RIDGECREST, Calif. — An earthquake measuring 4.4 on the Richter scale shook the Mojave Desert 80 miles east of Bakersfield early today. The quake was recorded at 4:41 a.m. with an epicenter 29 miles northwest of Ridgecrest in the desert. There were no immediate reports of damage in the sparsely populated area.
