Larsen Sets NCAA Division II Heptathlon Record

Debra Larsen of Cal Poly Pomona set a meet record in the heptathlon with 5,827 points Thursday on the second day of competition at the four-day NCAA Division II track and field championships at Cal State Los Angeles.
Larsen’s score was the seventh-best ever for an American. The junior from Aberdeen, Wash., was seventh in the heptathlon and eighth in the high jump at the 1984 Olympic Trials. Janet Nicolls of Pomona was second with 5,619 points.
Robert Ekpete of Mount Saint Mary’s won the decathlon with 7,380 points.
The finals in seven field events, nine running events and two relays will be held today, starting at 2 p.m.
