Danzig Connection took the lead on the backstretch and held off favorite Clear Choice down the stretch to win the $119,800 Peter Pan Stakes by three-fourths of a length at Belmont Park in Elmont, N.Y., and earn a probable start in the Belmont Stakes on June 7.
Danzig Connection covered the course under Pat Day in 1:48 2/5. He paid $7.40, $4 and $3 as the second choice of the Belmont Park crowd of 23,049. Clear Choice returned $3.60 and $3, and Parade Marshall paid $4.40.
