Bethlehem workers will vote on a pay-cut pact.

United Steelworkers negotiators agreed to submit to the union rank and file a concessions contract that would lower Bethlehem Steel’s labor costs by $2.35 per hour, or 9.4%. If ratified, as predicted by the negotiators, the settlement would cut wages by 97 cents per hour and lower the value of other benefits by 99 cents per hour, for a total employee sacrifice of $1.96 an hour. Reductions in Social Security taxes and other administrative costs will save Bethlehem another 39 cents per hour.
