Garden Grove : Council OKs Hiring 4 for Code Enforcement

The City Council has approved the hiring of four code-enforcement officers to handle a crush of complaints about various city code and zoning law violations.

The additions, expected to add about $145,000 to the city’s annual payroll, will double the number of code enforcement officers. To handle legal matters associated with code enforcement, the city will also hire a deputy city attorney and a secretary.

Stewart Miller, director of development services, said the council gave preliminary approval for hiring the employees March 27 after a reported increase in complaints about broken-down and abandoned cars, illegal signs and businesses operating out of homes in residential areas.

The four new officers will primarily handle complaints called in at night and on weekends. The new deputy city attorney will handle those code enforcement issues, as well as building and housing code violations and municipal code revisions.
