WASHINGTON — President Reagan will nominate Adm. Carlisle Trost, a former submariner who has commanded the Atlantic Fleet for six months, to be the new chief of naval operations, Pentagon sources said Wednesday. Trost, 56, would replace Adm. James Watkins, who is retiring after four years as the top naval officer.
The Senate must confirm Trost’s nomination as the 23rd chief of naval operations.
