Chinese Film to Be Shown

A premiere of “Dark Night,” the controversial first feature film by Fred Tan, a Chinese-born, UCLA-educated writer and director, will be shown at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Melnitz Theater on the UCLA campus.
Set in Taipei, Taiwan, the film explores the emotional needs of an urban woman whose sophistication clashes with traditional Asian values. The film survived battles with a Chinese censorship board over its sexual explicitness, according to UCLA officials.
Tan will attend the screening. The movie was filmed in the Republic of China and has English subtitles.
Tickets, available only at the door, are $4 for the public and $2.50 for students with identification. Parking on campus is $3.
