ELVIS STILL THE ‘KING’ OF HIS TIME

No, Bill Medley, right, of the Righteous Brothers isn’t trying to strangle his singing partner Bobby Hatfield, even though their 1965 hit “You’ve Lost that Lovin’ Feeling” lost out to Elvis Presley’s “Hound Dog” in ABC-TV’s nationwide viewer participation show “America Picks the No. 1 Song.”
Medley and Hatfield attended a TV viewing party Wednesday night at their Fountain Valley club The Hop to root for their song, one of 15 No. 1 records that viewers voted on to select one favorite song from each of three decades of rock ‘n’ roll.
Orange County’s most famous singing duo couldn’t overcome Tupelo, Miss., favorite son Elvis Presley, whose 1956 hit “Hound Dog,” was named favorite song for the 1955-65 decade. Simon & Garfunkel’s “Bridge Over Troubled Water” won for the 1965-75 period and Lionel Richie’s “All Night Long” was selected in the 1975-85 decade.
