Suit was filed by three organizations seeking a Superior Court order that more deputy registrars be sent into Los Angeles County areas where voter registration is low. Common Cause of California, the Southwest Voter Registration Education Project and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference of Greater Los Angeles contend that the current system is unconstitutional and discriminates against the poor and ethnic minorities. They asked in their suit that no more public funds be spent on voter registration in the county until it reaches all segments of the population equally.
