Assault Charges Filed in Melee at Union Station

Charges were filed Thursday against three men as the result of a May 1 Los Angeles Union Station melee that reportedly pitted defendants in a cross-burning case against members of the Jewish Defense League.
City Atty. James K. Hahn said the criminal complaint named Bruce Firstman and Steven Jay Litt, both 36, and Stanley Charles Witek, 53. Witt already faces charges with eight other men in connection with a 1983 cross-burning incident during a gathering of The Order, the Nazi Party, the Ku Klux Klan, Aryan Nation and the White Aryan Resistance.
Witek allegedly assaulted two Amtrak police officers, one of whom was injured. Firstman was accused of assaulting Witek after the latter was arrested and handcuffed. Litt was charged with attacking a San Bernardino man who also is a defendant in the cross-burning case.
