Gourami, ridden by Patrick Valenzuela, trailed Party Leader most of the way and then responded strongly down the stretch to win the $40,000 feature race by a half-length Thursday at Hollywood Park.
Party Leader, with Gary Stevens in the saddle, finished second, another half-length in front of Prismatic, ridden by Eddie Delahoussaye.
Gourami ran the mile in 1:36 to win $22,000. Sent off the second choice by the 12,134 fans, Gourami paid $7.80, $3.40 and $2.20. Favored Party Leader returned $3.20 and $2.60, and Prismatic paid $2.80 to show.
Stevens lodged a claim of foul against Gourami for bearing in near the wire, but the stewards disallowed the protest.
