The center-right coalition of Prime Minister Aneerood Jugnauth emerged as the clear winner of a general election in Mauritius, capturing 39 of the 62 contested parliamentary seats. Official results showed that the coalition’s main opponent, the center-left union of Paul Berenger, had won 21 seats. Berenger himself was defeated by a candidate of the ruling coalition. A record 90% voted on the Indian Ocean island.
