Bay of Bengal Pirates Murder 12 Fishermen

DHAKA, Bangladesh — Pirates burned 12 fishermen to death and tossed their bodies into the Bay of Bengal off Bangladesh’s southwestern coast, police said today.
About 35 pirates in two boats attacked a fishing boat on Aug. 24 near Mahipur Island, 281 miles southwest of Dhaka. Police said the pirates, apparently attacking to steal the fishermen’s catch, overpowered the fishermen, sprayed gasoline on them and set them aflame.
