An attorney for former pitcher said he expects the 43-year-old former Detroit Tiger to be released from the Federal Correctional Institution in Talledega, Ala., by Friday, or at the latest by Monday.
McLain, the major league’s last 30-game winner, has been serving a 23-year sentence on charges of racketeering, acting as a loan shark, and dealing cocaine. Three weeks ago, a three-judge panel of the U.S. 11th Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta said he was denied a fair trial and threw out the conviction.
