Canada Cup Hockey : Lemieux’s 3 Goals Stop Team USA, 3-2

Mario Lemieux scored three goals, including the winner at 5:59 of the third period, before a capacity crowd of 17,026 at Hamilton, Canada, Wednesday night to lead Canada to a 3-2 victory over Team USA in the Canada Cup.
The winning goal, making it 3-1, came on a power play off an excellent pass from Wayne Gretzky.
The United States pulled within a goal 41 seconds later when Corey Millen tipped Gary Suter’s shot through Grant Fuhr’s pads.
Lemieux scored twice in the second period after the United States took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Pat LaFontaine.
It was the first loss for the United States (2-1). Canada is 2-0-1.
Soviet Union 7, Finland 4--At Halifax, Sergei Makarov scored three goals as the Soviets improved their record to 2-1 and Finland fell to 0-3. Valeri Kamensky and Andrei Lomakin had two goals apiece for the Soviets.
Sweden 4, Czechoslovakia 0--At Regina, goaltender Peter Lindmark made 28 saves for Sweden (2-1) as Czechoslovakia (0-2-1) lost for the second straight time.
