PONTIAC, Ill. — A prison official was stabbed to death Thursday, and inmates were confined to their cells as officials sought the killer, authorities said.
Pontiac Correctional Center Supt. Robert L. Taylor, 44, was attacked in the south cellblock of the maximum security prison and stabbed 10 times, said Nic Howell, spokesman for the Illinois Department of Corrections.
Taylor, who was third in command behind the warden and assistant warden, was the third Pontiac official killed in four years. An assistant warden was killed in 1985 and a food superintendent was killed in 1983, officials said.
