Coach Gary Torgeson, who led Cal State Northridge to the Division II national softball championship, was selected the Division II softball coach of the year for the fourth time by the NCAA. CSUN was 58-7 last season.
Former Westlake High players Eric Wynalda and Chris Volk will be on the San Diego State soccer team that faces Cal State Northridge at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at North Campus Stadium.
Wynalda was the Southern Section player of the year last season.
Officer John Futrell of the Devonshire Division of the Los Angeles Police Dept. in Northridge won the police demolition derby at Ascot Park last month.
It was the second consecutive year that Futrell won the event.
