Pat Robertson Urges Nicaragua Rebels to Form Exile Regime

MIAMI — Republican presidential contender Pat Robertson encouraged Nicaraguan resistance leaders Friday to form a government in exile that would later move in to depose the Sandinista regime.
The key to a “free Nicaragua,” he said, includes monetary aid outside the normal governmental channels and U.S. support to bring down the Sandinistas.
“The situation is not to annoy the Sandinistas, but to replace them,” he said.
Speaking to Miami’s GOP Elephant Forum, the television evangelist said democratic resistance leaders outside Nicaragua should be encouraged to form a government in exile that in turn would establish a constitution, free elections and all other characteristics of a democratic society.
