John Elway, Denver Broncos quarterback, will sign a $12.7-million contract next week, making him the highest-paid player in the NFL, according to the Denver Post. The newspaper said the contract will pay Elway $3 million in bonus money and $9.7 million in salary over six years.
Rookie Brian Bosworth recently signed an $11-million contract for 10 years with the Seattle Seahawks. The highest-paid NFL players on an average per-year basis have been quarterbacks Jim Kelly of Buffalo and Dan Marino of Miami. Kelly has a five-year contract for $8 million, Marino a six-year pact worth $9 million. Elway is in the final year of a five-year contract worth $5 million.
