Mack Lobell, unbeaten in seven previous starts this year, lost to Napoletano in two separate heats of the $500,000 World Trotting Derby at the Du Quoin (Ill.) State Fair.
Mack Lobell broke stride in the stretch of both races. Napoletano won the first heat in 1:54 4/5 and the second in 1:53 2/5, tying a track record for 3-year-old trotters.
