timeless INDIA

Timeless India, a prism of races, traditions and influences, has called to travelers for centuries. They come still to exclaim over temples and monuments of exquisite beauty, to sip tea in the coolness of marble splendor and watch the outlines of a maharajah’s palace disappear in the embrace of dusk. This picture page illustrates India’s fascination for the traveler.
The India of yesterday still exists, seen in such places as Cochin, where the Chinese-style fishing nets are said to have come to Kerala with traders from the court of Kublai Khan, and in the ageless rites of worship and cleansing on the banks of the Ganges at Varanasi.
The names of India’s cities--Darjeeling, Khajuraho, Varanasi, Pondicherry--are a litany that conjures up images of a land of magic, music, painting and people--so many people--their faces becoming a tapestry of memories that linger long after the traveler has taken leave.
