A motorcyclist fleeing from California Highway Patrol officers who had stopped him for running a red light early Monday lost control of his cycle in the intersection of Paseo de Valencia and Alicia Parkway and was killed, officers said.
The motorcyclist was stopped by the CHP officers at El Toro Road and Rockfield Boulevard in El Toro at 1:37 a.m., then fled along Rockfield, Los Alisos and Valencia, at times topping 100 m.p.h.
Moments later, officers said, the man started to brake as he approached the intersection, lost control of the cycle and both rider and cycle fell to the pavement and skidded across the intersection. Both hit the curb and several trees and bushes.
The 28-year-old Laguna Hills resident was declared dead at the scene by paramedics. The CHP said it was withholding the man’s name until his family had been notified.
