A motorcyclist was killed Monday afternoon when he collided with a car on Old Highway 101 on his way to work at the San Onofre nuclear power plant, authorities said.
Robert Joseph Graham Jr., 29, of Oceanside, was a maintenance worker at the plant.
The accident occurred at 3:40 p.m. as Graham--who was wearing a helmet--was southbound on the highway, just south of Basilone Road, said Dan Matticks, a deputy San Diego County coroner. The victim was unable to stop his motorcycle from colliding with a car that was making a U-turn, authorities said.
Paramedics tried to save Graham, but he was declared dead at the scene at 4:15 p.m., apparently of internal injuries, according to the coroner’s office.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
