Crowded Air Space

The reaction by a group of private airplane pilots to the recent Federal Aviation Administration action to raise the restricted Terminal Control Area limit around Los Angeles International Airport has me puzzled.
It is my understanding that this action was taken by the FAA in order to improve public safety in aviation. I thought any pilot association would be for more safety, but apparently not if it affects them personally. Granted, the private pilots now can no longer travel the scenic coastal route but now must fly through the smog and haze over downtown Los Angeles.
But isn’t the minor inconvenience of a few in the efforts to make flying safer for all of us worth the price to pay?
