Landmark Designated: The site of one of Fullerton’s first homes was recently designated a local historical landmark in a special ceremony conducted by Mayor Richard C. Ackerman. The site is at 2000 E. Wilshire Ave. The Otto des Granges family built a home there in the 1870s after settling in the Fullerton area in 1872. The family had fled France during the Huguenot uprisings in the early 1800s, eventually making its way to California after living in Tennessee and St. Louis, Mo. Ackerman unveiled a plaque detailing the history of the site and of a huge pepper tree planted by the des Granges family soon after members moved to Fullerton. The home had been demolished earlier after it was determined that it could not be restored.
