Stanton : Truck Passenger Dies in Accident; Driver Jailed

One passenger in a pickup truck was killed and two others were injured when it crashed into a parked tractor-trailer rig, authorities said Tuesday.
Jesus Avila, 40, of Stanton was arrested Tuesday afternoon on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and felony hit-and-run. According to Sgt. Hal Brotheim, the driver of the truck had run away from the scene of the Monday night accident in which Samuel Talavera, 22, of Stanton, a passenger in the cab of the truck, was killed.
Two brothers from Stanton, who were believed to have been riding in the bed of the truck, were taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange. Martin Magana, 25, was listed in critical condition Tuesday and Trujillo Magana, 25, was listed in good condition.
According to police, Avila was southbound on Beach Boulevard near Star Street when he struck the parked tractor-trailer rig shortly before 10:30 p.m.
