Wisconsin Gov. Tommy G. Thompson promised to support G. Heileman Brewing Co.’s effort to deal with a $1.01-billion unsolicited takeover bid by Australian brewing magnate Alan Bond. After meeting with Heileman officials, Thompson said he would call a special legislative session to act on measures helpful to Heileman if necessary. Later this month, a U.S. District judge is scheduled to consider motions by Bond, who is suing the La Crosse-based Heileman to secure its shareholder list and to get an injunction against “poison pill” provisions in the firm’s bylaws.
