One man was killed and another slightly injured when two drivers suspected of being drunk narrowly missed colliding head-on and then swerved into separate crashes on a winding part of Laurel Canyon Boulevard in Studio City, Los Angeles police said.
The car heading north in the 3200 block of Laurel Canyon crashed into a light pole in the accident at 9:40 p.m. Monday. Its driver, whose identity was not confirmed, was killed.
Police said the southbound car, driven by Jay Norman, 44, of Los Angeles, swerved into the back of another car. Norman was injured slightly. The other driver was unhurt.
Witnesses told police that both cars were being driven erratically before the accident. Police said Norman was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving and was treated for minor injuries at the Van Nuys Division Jail.
