Weinberger to Visit Gulf Region

WASHINGTON — Defense Secretary Caspar W. Weinberger will go to the Persian Gulf region late this month and visit Navy ships as a morale booster for sailors, Administration sources said today.

Weinberger will make stops in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, headquarters for the U.S. Middle East Force in the gulf, to speak with leaders of both countries about the extent of their cooperation with the Navy escorts of U.S.-flagged Kuwaiti tankers, the sources said.
