1.4% Capital Spending Rise Seen

WASHINGTON — The Commerce Department said today that U.S. firms plan to increase capital spending by 1.4% in 1987 from the 1986 level--only half the estimated increase of three months ago. The small increase is in line with the forecasts of many private economists, who believe that the new tax law will depress business investment this year.
