CBS Ponders Sale of Record Unit

NEW YORK — CBS Inc. said today that Sony Corp. has inquired about whether CBS is interested in selling all or part of its record unit and that CBS plans to “consider and respond . . . in due course.”

But the company added in a brief statement that it is not currently negotiating to sell all or part of its CBS Records Group. The statement was issued after the Wall Street Journal reported in today’s editions that CBS directors were expected to meet as early as next week to consider whether to sell all or part of the record division.
