About 68,355 people--approximately the population of Newport Beach--participated in 1,148 community service events offered through Orange Coast College last school year. The school’s Community Service Program include lectures, seminars, workshops, hobby classes and performing arts events that are open to the public for a small fee. Last year, fees for such lectures as “Armchair Adventures” and non-credit classes in such subjects as “Be Your Own Handyman” generated a record $1.3 million for the community college.
“We offer one of the largest, most comprehensive, academically sound and financially successful community service programs in Southern California,” said George Blanc, OCC’s director of community services.
