Sileo’s Contract With Tampa Bay Ruled Out by NFL

TAMPA, Fla. — The Tampa Bay Buccaneers said Friday night that the National Football League has withheld approval of a free-agent contract signed by defensive lineman Dan Sileo and has placed the former University of Miami player in a supplemental draft scheduled for Wednesday.

Sileo, a 6-foot 2-inch, 282-pound nose tackle, signed with the Buccaneers last Sunday, two days after the National Collegiate Athletic Assn. ruled that he could not play at Miami this season because the five-year period he had to complete his expired after the 1986 season.

The player began discussions with the Buccaneers on grounds that he is a free agent because he was eligible for this spring’s draft and was not selected by any NFL team.
