One look at those promos for ABC’s new “Full House”--three goofy bachelors trying to raise an adorable baby--and we figured TV had once again Xeroxed an idea from the big screen. In this case, last year’s French hit, “Three Men and a Cradle,” with the same storyline (and already remade in English by Touchstone as “Three Men and a Baby” with Tom Selleck, Steve Guttenberg and Ted Danson, for December release).

Not so, contends “Full House” creator/writer/exec producer Jeff Franklin.

There’s more than just a baby in his show, he points out: The three pals (John Stamos, Bob Saget, David Coulier) are also raising widower Stamos’ daughters (5 and 12, played by Jodie Sweetin and Candace Cameron, respectively). Stamos’ character is an experienced father, while the feature had the infant left on a fumbling bachelor’s doorstep.

Franklin said he got the idea for “House” when he was “trying to find a new way to do a buddy show.”

He swears he didn’t see “Cradle” “until after I sold the idea to ABC,” and then “to be sure I wasn’t doing the same thing.”
