Retired Superior Court Judge H. Eugene Breitenbach Dies

H. Eugene Breitenbach, a Los Angeles Superior Court judge from 1958 to his retirement in 1973 and a former member of the California Youth Authority, died at a convalescent home in Irvine. He was 84.
Breitenbach, a graduate of Harvard University Law School, came to California in 1930 and was in private practice in Los Angeles from 1931 to 1952. During World War II he served as the enforcement chief for the Office of Price Administration in Southern California and Arizona.
In 1952, Breitenbach was named a member of the California Youth Authority and served until 1957, a year before Gov. Goodwin J. Knight named him to the Superior Court. He began his service on the Glendale bench.
He became presiding judge of the Juvenile Court of Los Angeles in 1961 and served until 1965, returning to the Superior Court bench until his retirement.
He also taught at Southwestern and Loyola universities.
Survivors include his wife, Harriet, two daughters, a son and seven grandchildren.
