METAIRIE, La. — Twenty-one anti-abortion protesters were arrested Saturday after blocking the entrance to an abortion clinic in this New Orleans suburb, police said.
The protest coincided with the visit to New Orleans of Pope John Paul II.
Meanwhile, a group of about 50 protesters carrying picket signs marched in front of an inner-city New Orleans abortion clinic that remained open for business Saturday morning during the Pope’s visit.
Brenda Diano, administrator of the Delta Women’s Clinic on St. Charles Avenue, said the group was larger than the usual one that marches in front of the clinic Saturday mornings.
