It is people like Jovanovich who pose the greatest danger in destroying the fairest economic system in the world--by abusing its freedoms and giving ammunition to its opponents. People like Jovanovich also make it difficult to defend the system when schemes like his succeed.
Whenever freedoms are exploited to accomplish one’s objective, especially when deceit is one of the tactics used, the risk of losing those freedoms for everyone increases. At least Jovanovich’s fight against a takeover by Robert Maxwell is on open ground. It is ironic how disclosure regulations restricting corporate takeovers will probably be the savior of Jovanovich’s control over Harcourt.
