Milne Truck Lines has laid off at least 85% of its 1,000 Teamsters due to a breakdown in negotiations for wage concessions, Milne President and Chief Operating Officer P. Elliot Burnside said Sunday. The Pleasanton, Calif.-based trucking line had warned that it would begin closing its operations unless the Western Conference of Teamsters agreed to consider concessions. But Burnside said: “We’ve had no response from Teamster leadership.” Burnside said Milne ranks as one of the region’s largest trucking companies. The company is owned by Sun Carriers Inc. of Philadelphia, which also operates Massachusetts-based St. Johnsbury Trucking and Arkansas-based Jones Truck Line.
