A bald and barefoot woman whose identity was unknown was struck and killed early Sunday when she stepped off the center divider onto the San Diego Freeway and into the path of an oncoming car, authorities said.
The victim was described as a black woman, about 30 years of age, wearing a red-and-blue blouse, a deputy coroner said.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the woman walked onto the southbound lanes of the San Diego Freeway just north of the Garden Grove Freeway shortly after midnight Saturday. She was struck by a Ford Mustang traveling south and was pronounced dead at the scene, CHP officers said.
The woman carried no purse or identification, the CHP said.
The driver was not cited or held, pending further investigation.
