PANAMA CITY, Panama — A U.S. diplomat was released today, one day after he was detained while watching men in civilian clothing firing into a crowd of anti-government demonstrators, U.S. Embassy officials said.
Embassy spokeswoman Cynthia Ferrell said economic adviser David Miller was released after midnight from the San Miguelito jail. She did not comment on his condition. One person was killed and five were wounded Sunday during the rally in the southeastern suburb of San Miguelito.
