Vice President George Bush has asked Warsaw for permission to address the people of Poland when he visits that country this month, and the suggestion “is being looked at favorably” by Polish authorities, a Bush aide said. Craig Fuller, Bush’s chief of staff, also said that the vice president expects to meet with Solidarity leader Lech Walesa and other members of the outlawed union as well as government leaders. Bush is scheduled to leave Sept. 24 on a 10-day trip to Italy, Poland, West Germany, France, Britain and Belgium. He will be the highest-ranking U.S. visitor since then-President Jimmy Carter in December, 1977.
