CLEARWATER, Fla. — Four Tampa men on a fishing trip spent 22 hours clinging to a large cooler before they were rescued after their 26-foot vessel capsized in the Gulf of Mexico, 30 miles northwest of Tarpon Springs.
They tied a rope around the 100-plus-quart cooler and formed a human chain, clinging to the cooler and one another. They used a yellow raincoat as a signal when they spotted a research vessel.
