DENVER — Todd Santos, the San Diego State quarterback who set an NCAA single-game pass completion percentage record and connected on four touchdown passes in the Aztecs’ 52-34 victory over Utah, was named Western Athletic Conference offensive player of the week Monday.
Brigham Young’s defensive back Rodney Rice was named defensive player of the week.
Santos also threw for a career-high 462 yards against Utah and moved into 12th place on the NCAA’s all-time passing list with 8,141 yards. He completed 35 of 42 yards for a completion percentage of 83.3%, a record for quarterbacks with at least 35 completions in a game.
The old mark of 81.1% was set by Cal’s Rick Campbell against Florida on Sept. 13, 1980.
