Sally Jessy Raphael is off the “Talknet” radio roster, and Steve Allen is coming in with a new daily program.
Raphael, who had been on “Talknet” from its start six years ago, was on the air for the final time last week. Her “Talknet” segment aired from 9-11 p.m. Monday through Friday on KGIL.
Reached in New York Tuesday, Raphael said she began contract negotiations with NBC last January, but when Westwood One recently acquired NBC Radio Networks--including “Talknet”--the negotiations stalled. “I fell through the cracks,” she said.
She continues to host her daily syndicated television program, “The Sally Jessy Raphael Show,” which airs on 107 stations, including Channel 9 here. Her “Talknet” timeslot has been taken over by Neal Myers.
Meanwhile, Westwood One has scheduled an Oct. 12 debut of “The Steve Allen Radio Show.”
