Howard Baker in Hospital; Suffers From Diverticulitis

WASHINGTON — White House Chief of Staff Howard H. Baker Jr. checked into Georgetown University Hospital on Tuesday suffering from diverticulitis, a White House spokesman said. Baker reported feeling ill during the day and was advised to check into the hospital for tests. Diverticulitis is a bacterial infection that causes inflammation of the colon wall.
