Mickey McAulay, who coached the Katella High School girls’ basketball team to the Southern Section 3-A championship game last season, has left to become an assistant at Cal Poly Pomona.
Barbara Bausch, the Knights’ freshman/sophomore coach, will replace McAulay, who had a 59-35 record in four seasons. In her first season, the Knights were 1-19. In 1985-86, Katella advanced to the quarterfinal round of the 3-A playoffs.
Last season, the Knights won the Empire League championship but lost to Mission Viejo in the 3-A title game.
McAulay will be a part-time assistant to Darlene May and will pursue a graduate degree in sports and clinical psychology.
