Cerritos : Schools to Tax Developers
The ABC Unified School District board Tuesday night voted 5 to 1 to approve levying developers’ fees to the maximum provided by state law. Board member Homer Lewis voted against the fees, which will be applied to all new construction, at rates of $1.50 per square foot for residential buildings and 25 cents per square foot for commercial building.
However, the board provided for a number of exemptions, including garages, carports, patios, sheds and storage areas, roof repairs or replacements, walkways, fences and any one-time room additions of 200 square feet or less.
Senior citizens’ housing is also exempted from the requirement. The fees will take effect Nov. 1.
