Bell Gardens : Casino Pact Extended

The Bell Gardens City Council has voted to extend until Jan. 1 an agreement allowing the Bicycle Club casino to use two-thirds of its banquet facilities for playing Pan.
In June, club officials asked the council to allow Pan, a form of pinochle and rummy, to be played in the banquet room until a proposed $2-million addition to the club is completed. The council voted to grant the request until this month.
City Manager Claude Booker said the popularity of Pai-gow, a Chinese tile game, has soared, prompting club officials to set up more Pai-gow tables and move the less popular Pan games into the banquet rooms.
The two-story, 18,000-square-foot addition is scheduled to be completed in June, said Bob Gilbert, director of operations for the club. Ground breaking is set for Sept. 28. The addition will house club offices and about 45 gaming tables, Gilbert said.
