LAUSANNE, Switzerland — The head of the International Olympic Committee said today he wants to meet Soviet leader Mikhail S. Gorbachev to discuss North Korea’s demands to co-host the 1988 Summer Games with South Korea.
IOC President Juan Antonio Samaranch said he hopes to meet with Gorbachev before next Jan. 17, the last day for national committees to tell the IOC whether they will send teams to Seoul. North Korea has threatened to try to coordinate a Soviet Bloc boycott of the Games similar to the one that struck the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.
